With the clients permission I’ll provide a running project account from the first preliminary thoughts to the final occupancy.
The First Meeting
Met with the client on Friday July 6th 2012 to talk about his residential project. Prior to the meeting I took the time to walk his 7.25 acre lot in Stone Point Estates just north of Emerald Park, SK. and right next door to the Wildlife Federation. Over the next three hours I was to find out that the client was attuned in every way to nature and being a farmer of some 40 years plus wanted to cary on his legacy and create a property at ease with nature.
With every technology at my call I was commissioned to create a modern manor and its grounds that was environmentally sound and energy efficient. The client favoured a walkout design two story home with views of the sun rising and setting. He has given some of his farm lands over to wildlife and wants landscaping easy to maintain, natural looking and attractive to both flora and fauna.
Not only is the client a grower of honest-to-goodness organic food, he is also a graduated Chef. As such he is interested in the Kitchen design and layout from the chef’s point of view. In his new found time he plans to entertain extensively and on occasion host groups of 25-50 people.
The client has a green thumb, naturally given as he is a farmer. But there is another type of green, that being green, environmentally friendly and sustainable building design and construction. The mandate is to follow these building guide lines as closely as feasible. As there are many thoughts as to what this means I will define the green vision in the design brief.
